AviSurv is a non-profit project aiming to provide accurate real-time field data on avifauna.
AviSurv utilises a custom built and highly specialised spatio-temporal data management system
which enables a variety of devices to securely connect remotely in order to both submit and consume the vast dataset. AviSurv strives to collate precise field data on avifauna distributions primarily in the Central and South Americas but is rapidly expanding thanks to the valuable support of intrepid naturalists around the world.
While a assortment of bird data collecting endeavours exist on the internet today, these are each primarily targeting a subset of naturalists. In contrast, AviSurv aims to provide a common platform, (Avifauna As A Service, 'AaaS' if you like), that allows the collation, utility and development of a common dataset by a variety of actors.
Why do some 'AviSurv' field guides have a price-tag?
AviSurv provides free access to the entire dataset for non-commercial uses via our API
. We are pleased to offer access to the same extensive dataset to those wishing to utilise it for commercial purposes for a nominal fee. The funds generated by granting access to the dataset help pay for the costs of the AviSurv data server.
How can I help?
AviSurv is essentially a citizen-science project for the collation and provisioning of quality spatial and temporal avifauna data. We rely on you, citizens of the world, to submit accurate avifauna sightings.
